While existence of phenomena like this has a long history, there’s little doubt that new technology has accelerated them dramatically.

This complex business ecosystem in turn has led companies to react slowly or passively when the critical needs of employees or stakeholders are not supported well or if there’s a dissatisfaction.

Research & Data shows numerous such examples ranging from customer dissatisfaction, lack of growth opportunities, employee stress, burnouts, degradation in holistic well-being, drop in engagement levels, lost loyalty & numerous such powerful indicators of real needs not desires or aspirations.

Achievers Workforce Institute (2021): According to a survey by the Achievers Workforce Institute, 52% of employees reported feeling disappointed with their job, and 38% said their job did not meet the expectations set during the hiring process.

The real drivers of satisfaction for almost every human in this case any employee will be real tangible things like world class compensation, personalised benefits, professional & personal growth opportunities, potential development, sense of belonging, meaningful work, holistic well-being, work life balance and so on. However, balancing & sustaining all of these factors together remains a massive challenge for most organizations today.

Why This Happens & Why It Matters?

The challenges we discussed happen for several systemic reasons deeply rooted in how most organizations are structured and incentivized. It matters profoundly because it impacts the core of employee wellbeing and future potential.

At a fundamental level, corporate model prioritizes financial returns sometimes overlooking critical employee needs which directly impacts customers. With relentless pressure to deliver shareholder value and growth, employees become expendable resources. Their wellbeing, job satisfaction, work-life balance& every other factors we discussed gets deprioritized when it conflicts with boosting margins. This unintentional extractive mindset views people as inputs to an economic engine rather than ends in themselves.

The hierarchical command-and-control structure common to most corporations further compounds the problem. Top-down decision-making concentrated in the hands of a few executives divorced from ground realities cultivates disempowerment among employees. Their insights get ignored and they lack autonomy over their work, fuelling alienation.

All this matters tremendously because work is central to human existence - it's not just how we make a living, but a major source of identity, meaning, growth and social connections. When the very stage for this fundamental human experience gets distorted by misaligned incentive structures, it strips away employee’s ability to truly thrive.

To conclude, the way most organizations economic activity is designed simply cannot be sustained because it is a systemic & design flaw.
